Important Information for Students on Moodle Course Availability

You may not see a full list of all your expected courses in your Moodle My Courses list or in this category. This does not necessarily mean that your course registrations are incorrect. There are two possible reasons:

  • Departments/Tutors make courses visible to Students in Moodle when the course is ready for teaching
  • Not all courses use Moodle.

You can use the Study tab in Campus Connect to check the courses you are registered for or contact your department who can also provide information on their use of Moodle.

Course image 22-23 ML3214: The Text in the World, The World in the Text: Early Global Iberias
Hispanic Studies

This course examines the 'worldliness' of texts - how they travelled across time, space, and language, often as a result of diasporas, political competition, empires, and peaceful exchange, often being repurposed for different local environments. It also looks at how they conceptualised ‘the world’ from multiple perspectives and subject positions (woman, colonised, indigenous, as well as normally dominant perspectives - male, politically powerful, Christian), thus participating in a process of worldmaking. Moving between the Iberian Peninsula, Colonial America, North Africa and the Middle East, it explores texts in a variety of languages (which may include Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, Quechua) studied through English translations, thus decentring traditional euro-centric approaches to ‘Hispanic’ literature. In doing so, it uses the early Iberian worlds as a conceptual testing ground for ideas about 'World Literature', revealing how earlier literary cultures were already ‘global’.
